2021-2022 Call for Nominations for OPTN Board of Directors and Committees

Published on: Monday, September 14, 2020

To be considered for 2021 openings, please apply by Sept. 30

Are you passionate about organ donation and transplantation? Are you looking for an opportunity to make a greater impact on the transplant community? We invite you to apply to serve as a volunteer for the OPTN, the national organ procurement and transplantation system. The OPTN is now seeking nominations for terms beginning July 1, 2021 on the Board of Directors and Committees.

Board and Committee members are volunteers, representing a variety of professional disciplines and expertise, in addition to individuals with personal experience in organ donation and transplantation. The OPTN values diversity and strives for Board and Committee membership that reflects the professionals, patients, donors, and families that make up the donation and transplantation community.

The OPTN is required by Federal regulation to meet certain composition requirements for the Board.  The OPTN Bylaws also contain composition requirements. Following these requirements, the OPTN Nominating Committee has developed a 2021-2022 Needs Assessment and List of Board and Committee Open Vacancies.  The Needs Assessment is conducted annually by the Board of Directors’ Nominating committee for the following year’s elections and appointments cycle. It includes the types of professional and personal expertise and experiences sought for the OPTN Board and Committees.

Who can apply?

  • Donation and transplantation professionals
  • Transplant candidates and recipients
  • Living donors
  • Donor families
  • Members of the general public

New for 2021 Board Applicants

The Nominating Committee has added five new questions to the Volunteer Interest Form for all applicants interested in serving on the Board of Directors. Given the large number of applications received for the Board each year, these questions were developed to provide the Nominating Committee additional information about each applicant and their interest in serving on the Board. Those applying for Committee positions alone will not be required to answer these supplemental questions.

If you have additional questions about volunteering on the Board or Committees or about your application, please email volunteer@unos.org.
