What is the AOOS Workgroup?

The AOOS Workgroup is comprised of OPTN community and committee members and is responsible for implementing the Secretary’s February 21, 2025, directive to remediate AOOS. The workgroup structure allows for increased collaboration, as well as more timely and efficient responses to issues related to AOOS. What teams comprise the AOOS Workgroup?

The AOOS Workgroup Chair assessed the need to create three sub-workgroups, or “teams,” to more efficiently implement discrete activities and leverage specific expertise.

Expedited Placement Policy (EPP) Team – Vice Chair, Kevin Lee, MPA

The goals of the EPP team are to review EPP policy, data, and guidance to organ procurement organizations; ensure the definition of EPP is appropriate; and recommend policy revisions to improve EPP.

Offer Team – Vice Chair, Steven R. Potter, M.D., FACS

The goals of the Offer team are to concisely define an “organ offer”; describe the components of a good offer; outline the minimum requirements for a valid offer; review policies related to offers; and recommend policy revisions to improve definitions and understanding of an organ offer.

Compliance Team – Vice Chair, Justin Wilkerson, MBA

The goals of the Compliance team are to review, evaluate, and assess current OPO AOOS rates and trends and to recommend methods to educate member OPOs to improve their compliance. It will also review OPTN management and oversight of OPOs. This team will work closely with the OPTN’s Membership and Professional Standards Committee (MPSC) to ensure alignment of efforts.
