White paper addresses ethical issues in information to support transplant program selection

At its December 2022 meeting, the OPTN Board of Directors endorsed a white paper produced by the OPTN Ethics Committee entitled, Transparency in Program Selection. The document addresses the ethical principles supporting the information transplant programs should make available to potential transplant candidates in considering where they should list for a transplant.

The paper outlines a number of perspectives to be considered in making program-specific information available to transplant candidates, along with examples of particular questions that patients may want the transplant program to address. The document also examines how such information may be provided in a credible and easily understood fashion.
