A new pancreas allocation system was implemented on October 30, 2014.
Important changes to the allocation system
- There are consistent criteria that simultaneous kidney-pancreas candidates must meet to accrue waiting time, by defining uremia for kidney transplantation and diabetes for pancreas transplantation.
- Allocation of the kidney follows allocation of the pancreas at the local level.
- Pancreata are allocated to recipients on a combined pancreas/kidney-pancreas waiting list.
- And with these changes, pancreas allocation is now separate and distinct from kidney allocation altogether.
