Report identifies 2008 transplant trends

As part of an ongoing effort to identify emerging trends in the field of organ donation and transplantation, more than 50 experts from many areas of the transplant community have prepared the comprehensive 2008 Annual Report of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation (OPTN) and U.S. Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR).

The SRTR works jointly with the OPTN to develop a report containing information on the scientific and clinical status of solid organ transplantation in the United States. The Annual Report gives data highlights and extensive reference tables at a national level regarding end-stage organ failure. These descriptions cover those patients on waiting lists and receiving transplants, as well as donors and transplants.

This Annual Report of the OPTN and SRTR represents the 18th such annual report and is based largely on data pertaining to the 10-year period from 1998 to 2007.

The 18th Annual Report was produced by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) contractor, Arbor Research Collaborative for Health (formerly University Renal Research and Education Association), in collaboration with the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) contractor, United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), under contract with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
