Reminder – Network breach notifications

Published on: Tuesday, October 25, 2022

In observance of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we are reminding members about the importance of system security and protecting patient health information.

As a member of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), your data and IT systems interact with the key OPTN processes of organ matching and data management. For that reason, and to maintain the integrity of the national OPTN system, it is your responsibility to notify us of any breach or compromise of systems or data experienced by your organization. Any compromise to an IT system that might interact with the OPTN is of vital interest to the national system. The OPTN Network Operations Operating Committee (NOOC) is working on changes to OPTN policy to make these requirements clearer for members.

If your institution was affected by a data breach or security incident, please call 800-978-4334 or contact unethelpdesk@unos.org immediately. We will be happy to work with you to assess and try to resolve any issue with the potential to affect the national transplant network.
