Public comment open from July 31 through September 24

The summer 2024 public comment cycle opened July 31 and closes September 24. The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) is offering eight items for review, including four committee updates and four proposals.
Comments and replies will be published on the OPTN website to promote transparency and trust in the national transplant system.
We encourage patients, transplant candidates and recipients, caregivers, living donors, donor families, and donation and transplant professionals to learn more about the items and provide their valuable feedback to help shape U.S. organ transplant policy. Feedback will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. ET on September 24.

Committee updates:
- Continuous Distribution of Kidneys Update
- Continuous Distribution of Hearts Update
- Continuous Distribution of Livers & Intestines Update
- Continuous Distribution of Pancreata Update
Proposals:
- Update Histocompatibility Bylaws
- Promote Efficiency of Lung Donor Testing
- Revise Conditions for Access to the OPTN Computer System
- Require Reporting of HLA Critical Discrepancies and Crossmatching Events to the OPTN
Educational resources, including videos and presentations, are available to help the public learn more about the items.
All comments are reviewed by the sponsoring committee before finalizing proposals and also considered by the OPTN Board of Directors before voting on the proposal. Learn more about the policy development process here.
