The OPTN wants your input on the regional structure and process. Please submit your input today.
OPTN regional boundaries are currently used to support the governance and operations structure of the national organ transplant network. The OPTN Regional Review will analyze the existing OPTN regional structure and provide recommendations to improve OPTN governance effectiveness. The OPTN Regional Review will be conducted by a vendor with proven experience in systems and operations design. Prior to identifying a vendor, the OPTN is soliciting community input on the structure, processes, and effectiveness of the current regional structure.
The project will consider the current and future needs of the nation’s donation and transplant community. Examples of considerations include, but are not limited to:
- The basis for geographic regions in the governance and operation of OPTN in an era of broader geographic sharing
- Whether current configuration of regions is optimized and other configurations that could be considered
The OPTN will select a third-party vendor to evaluate the regional structure, including community input, and deliver a series of recommendations to the OPTN Board of Directors.
Your input is needed! The community input questionnaire is now available on the OPTN Regional Review webpage. Your questionnaire responses will be informational and made available to the vendor selected to conduct the study.
The Regional Review will be ongoing through early 2022 and the community will have additional opportunities to provide input throughout the process. Regular updates on the study will be provided on the OPTN Regional Review webpage, at regional and committee meetings, and as news items on the homepage of OPTN to announce milestones of the project.
The Board of Directors will be responsible for approving any changes resulting from the study. Any proposed changes will be released for public comment prior to Board action.
