The Fiscal Year 2022 budget for the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network has been approved. Projected OPTN expenses will be approximately $63.9 million.
Direct federal appropriations are budgeted to account for $6.5 million. The remainder of OPTN funding comes from the OPTN registration fee, a one-time fee assessed to OPTN member institutions at the time they list candidates on the transplant waiting list. The OPTN registration fee for the coming fiscal year will be $868.
The OPTN budget and registration fee are developed on an annual basis. The OPTN Finance Committee makes recommendations to the OPTN Board of Directors for approval. The OPTN budget and registration fee amount are also subject to review and approval by the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the OPTN contract.
