OPTN Board of Directors releases Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from Member Not in Good Standing

At its meeting Dec. 4, 2023, the OPTN Board of Directors restored full member privileges for Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, a transplant hospital based in Hershey, Pa.

The Board declared the institution a Member Not in Good Standing in September 2022, following concerns raised about its liver and kidney transplant programs’ adherence to OPTN requirements and their processes for quality assurance and performance improvement. The hospital has since instituted a number of quality improvements that successfully address the previous concerns.

The Board action follows a recommendation by the OPTN Membership and Professional Standards Committee to rescind the designation, following the process outlined in Appendix L of the OPTN Bylaws.
