HOPE Act special public comment open from March 21 through April 22

Published on: Friday, March 21, 2025

Special public comment session open from March 21, 2025, through April 22, 2025.

Feedback will be accepted until 11:59pm ET on April 22, 2025.

The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) is seeking feedback on a proposal sponsored by the OPTN Ad Hoc Disease Transmission Advisory Committee (DTAC). A special public comment period opens March 21, 2025, and closes April 22, 2025.

The DTAC’s proposed revisions to OPTN HIV policies align with federal regulatory updates and identify additional patient safety measures for the transplantation of kidneys, livers, and liver-kidneys from donors with HIV to recipients living with HIV; these transplants will no longer be required to meet NIH research protocols.

Read proposal and provide feedback

We encourage transplant professionals with experience participating in the HOPE Act, patients, transplant candidates and recipients, caregivers, living donors, donor families, and donation professionals to learn more about the item and provide their valuable feedback to help shape U.S. organ transplant policy. All comments are reviewed by the sponsoring committee before finalizing proposals and also considered by the OPTN Board of Directors before voting on the proposal.

Comments and replies will be published on the OPTN website to promote transparency and trust in the national transplant system.
