Calculator tool estimates liver wait list outcomes

Published on: Monday, May 4, 2015

The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR), at the request of the OPTN Liver and Intestinal Organ Transplantation Committee, has published a resource calculator that estimates a liver candidate’s likelihood of various outcomes including transplantation, remaining on the waiting list, or removal from the waiting list at various future points in time.

Important note: This resource is intended solely for informational purposes and is not meant to offer clinical advice as to the appropriate treatment or outcomes for a specific candidate.

The tool allows users to select candidate characteristics and the location of a transplant center.  It then provides an estimate of the likelihood of being transplanted, remaining on the waiting list, or being removed from the waiting list for various reasons within the next 30, 60, 90, 180, or 365 days. It can display these outcomes at the transplant center level as well as within the center’s local Donation Service Area, OPTN region and nationwide. The calculator can estimate what may happen from any point in time the candidate is likely to be on the waiting list, not only from the candidate’s first day of listing.
