Significant changes to pancreas allocation

Published on: Wednesday, September 17, 2014

A new pancreas allocation system was implemented on October 30, 2014.

Important changes to the allocation system

  • There are consistent criteria that simultaneous kidney-pancreas candidates must meet to accrue waiting time, by defining uremia for kidney transplantation and diabetes for pancreas transplantation.
  • Allocation of the kidney follows allocation of the pancreas at the local level.
  • Pancreata are allocated to recipients on a combined pancreas/kidney-pancreas waiting list.
  • And with these changes, pancreas allocation is now separate and distinct from kidney allocation altogether.
