Reporting lines available for OPTN members and transplant patients

Published on: Monday, February 12, 2007

The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) now provides toll-free reporting lines for both members and patients.

OPTN Member Reporting Line

Beginning February 15, 2007, UNOS will provide an OPTN member reporting line (866-787-4909) for transplant professionals to report potential patient safety issues or OPTN policy violations at member institutions. UNOS staff will monitor the reporting line from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday, and maintain confidentiality to the extent permitted by law. Any calls received after business hours will be forwarded to a voice messaging system.

Patient Services Line

The OPTN patient services line (888-894-6361) is available for patients to report concerns about their transplant program or their general experience with transplantation. The patient services staff can be reached by phone from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday. Voicemail is available outside of business hours.

Beginning February 15, 2007, transplant centers must inform candidates of this service by including this phone number in the written notification sent when a candidate is added to the waiting list, a candidate is removed from the waiting list for reasons other than transplant or death, or when the transplant evaluation has been completed and a patient will not be placed on the waiting list. Transplant centers are also required to notify currently listed candidates about the availability of the patient services line.
