The OPTN Strategic Plan is a roadmap to help prioritize major initiatives of the OPTN over a three-year period. It was approved by the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors in June 2015.
The OPTN/UNOS Executive Committee drafted the plan to govern the network through 2018. It is based on extensive feedback from the transplant community on the most important areas of focus, including an opportunity to provide comments. Feedback was incorporated into the final version of the plan.
The Executive Committee provided more direction within this plan regarding how OPTN resources should be allocated to achieve these goals. This direction is based on the feedback received from the transplant community in strategic planning sessions. The community made it overwhelmingly clear that increasing the number of transplants is the highest priority for transplant patients and professionals at this time, and OPTN resources are not currently aligned with this focus. Therefore, the Executive Committee assigned each goal a resource allocation percentage that better reflects the transplant community's priorities and focus over the next three years.
