Some abdominal wall reconstruction procedures are considered vascularized composite allograft transplants

Federal transplant law was revised in 2014 to include vascularized composite allografts (VCAs). Since that time, the OPTN VCA committee has worked with federal health officials to clarify other procedures that are considered to be VCA transplants, and the rules governing them.

Some abdominal wall reconstruction procedures fall under the VCA definition, and are subject to OPTN membership and policy requirements.
